WHAT IS VIBRATIONAL MEDICINE?
The use of Vibrational Medicine is certainly not new, even though our current way of explaining and understanding how it works is new. Many disciplines of healing such as Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic or (East) Indian Medicine, Homeopathy, and Charismatic Healing (such as laying on of hands, healing by the Holy Spirit, and Prayer), just to name a few, have understood the energetic nature of the body/mind/spirit complex for centuries. In this essay we will talk about what vibrational medicine is, how it works, and we will also discuss a different way of viewing ourselves and the healing crises that we all face at sometime or another during our lives.
Emergence of a New Model
Vibrational (also called Energetic) Medicine invites us to look at our world and ourselves in a completely new way than we are used to. The science upon which our so-called modern or conventional medical model is based, Newtonian Physics and scientific methodology, results from 400-year-old information. This model believes that human and animal species are nothing more than elaborate machines - simple cause and effect can explain everything about the way in which these machines "operate". When viewed mechanistically, our bodies are seen as material forms, and energy is given very little attention.
With the advent of 20th century physics, a new understanding or paradigm emerged and the seeds of Quantum Physics were born. Einstein turned the scientific world on its ear with his Theory of Relativity, which essentially stated that light, energy, and matter are all of equal importance. Physicists began to look at how energy played a much more important role in the creation of, and indeed in the continuing survival of our universe. Where matter once ruled, energy was now taking its place. This new understanding of the universe did not find its way into the science of medicine, however, because the means did not exist to "prove" these theories or to actually truly understand what they meant in terms of human beings and health.
In the last 30 years, technological advances have opened the door for the study of energy and how it behaves, in ways that were never before available. The results of these studies is creating yet another paradigm shift, which is just now filtering its way into general public understanding. In the Quantum universe, everything is energy! Energy always precedes matter and indeed, matter accounts for only 2% of the Universe, as we understand (or see) it. Essentially the only difference between physical matter and etheric matter is the electromagnetic frequency at which it vibrates or resonates.
Believe it to See it
For most of us growing up in the era of "hard" science and the scientific philosophy of "you've got to see it to believe it (or prove it exists)", we become very uncomfortable when we start talking about energy and vibrations and harmonic resonance levels. This is because we have been instructed to only believe what we can see or observe (and mathematically quantify in some way). One of the most fascinating laws about the quantum universe is that the very act of observing and testing something changes the outcome depending on who is doing the observing. Essentially, this means that the observer "creates" the outcome of the test he is observing. This further means that we have had our scientific belief system backward for all these years, since we could more accurately say, "we have to believe it to see it".
Understanding the Energetic Universe
The word "energy" makes people uncomfortable because they can't see it (for the most part). Yet we all know that energy exists. We know that sound comes through our radios via radio or sound waves. We know that we can see pictures of the body using radioactive energy or "x-rays". And we are perhaps most comfortable with solar energy because we can feel its warmth and can even see its "rays" streaming forth to light our days. If we can take these ideas of energy that we are comfortable with and expand them just a bit, we can come to understand more about our true origin and ourselves.
Quantum Physics asks that we see all life, organic and inorganic, as a vast network of energetic fields that work together in a wonderfully paradoxical way. The paradox is that while this network is incredibly complex and intricate, it is also easily accessible and changeable. When we apply this philosophy to our bodies and to our lives, we begin to see the enormity of the self-empowerment that this understanding of life gives us.
What You Think is What You Are
We are essentially a complex network of electromagnetic energy waves, which create and change our bodies, lives, and world, moment by moment. Every part of our bodies is made up of this energy "substance", and in fact, every organ, tissue and cell vibrates or resonates at specific electromagnetic frequencies. So even though we think of our bodies as being physical matter, they are changing moment by moment and in some ways the material form we see reflected in the mirror is just an illusion because we are not the being we were a moment ago. To go back to the observer and the observed once again, the thoughts we think are energy too! Our brain is the receiver through which these energy-thought waves flow (just as radio waves flow through the radio) to further create and change our worlds. This is exactly what is meant by the phrase "be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it"!
Seeing yourself as a Power Plant
At this point we must also understand that our "receivers" extend beyond the physical body as we know and see it. The electromagnetic field extends beyond the physically seen body. This is known in the esoteric world as the "Aura" or "Auric field". Within the physical body there are also electromagnetic "power" centers which correlate to physical structures (Autonomic Plexi, or bundles of nerves) within the body. These power centers are known as the chakras. The concept of the aura and chakras is by no means a "new age" idea. These concepts have existed for thousands of years in various religious and medical traditions, and only now do we have the scientific ability to see their existence through Kirlian Photography among other methodologies. Electromagnetic energy flows into and through our receivers. This is also known as Universal Life Force Energy or Chi (in the eastern philosophies). To introduce the spiritual component, this can also be understood as the God Force.
What Channel Are You Tuned Into
The really exciting part about all of this is that just as we can tune our radios to our favorite stations, so can we learn to tune in to our cells, organs, tissues, and thoughts to purposefully alter and create that which we desire to occur. While we can do this in many different ways, as we will discuss further below, it is worth mentioning that while the Universe is changing and changeable, there are also Universal Laws at work, which we cannot change or bend. This means that we cannot use our understanding and knowledge of the energetic nature of the world to serve our own petty wills. We cannot use this knowledge to harm or manipulate others. By using the Universal Life Force energy in this way we are creating Karma (simply understood as "What goes around, comes around") which opens us up to all kinds of consequences that are best not tempted.
Name That Dis-Ease
Before we can understand how Vibrational Medicine can help us, we must also understand what dis-ease is. Disease is simply nothing more than a resonance level in a body or organ system that has become altered or distorted from its homeostatic (or balanced) state, and healing is nothing more than finding the tool or mechanism by which that resonance level is restored to its preferred harmonic pattern.
We also need to change our perception of dis-ease from a noun to verb. We name dis-eases and we think of them as conditions that we "have". A far healthier way to view dis-ease is to consider it as a process, or something that we are going through. Instead of saying, "I have cancer", we should say something like, "I am cancering", or "I am tumoring", which psychologically implies that it is a state that we are moving through, not stuck in.
Take My Pain, Please
The other piece to consider is that we have been taught to view our pains and dis-ease symptoms as bad things, when in fact we should be looking at these as messages or clues that our body is presenting to get our attention. This externally-oriented view is endemic of the Newtonian model we have been taught the last few hundred years. When we shift our attention from the external ("Whom can I find to fix this?") to the internal ("What's going on within me and how can I understand, express, and release it?"), we experience the Truth and power of the Quantum universe for ourselves. We have forgotten how truly brilliant our physical bodies are at keeping us going, and the pains and symptoms we experience are signals by the body, trying to tell us that some compensation has occurred and we should take a look at it. The body will keep compensating as long as it can to keep us upright, until it runs out of ways to compensate any further. We usually ignore these warning signals and choose to wait until we are in crisis, before we "do" something, which unfortunately translates into "call the doctor and have them do something". We have given up the responsibility for our health and well-being, and thereby have given away our power to an external source.
Comparing Apples to Apples
Vibrational Medicine, then is the use of various tools and therapies, to create, manage, and enhance our body/mind/spirit (this is all connected and needs to be thought of as such). Since everything is made of energy and energy precedes all matter, we could really say that everything falls into the category of Vibrational Medicine, including conventional medical techniques. The difference between some tools and others, however, is the degree to which they create unwanted or detrimental side effects.
Allopathic models are not about "health care", but rather are about "dis-ease care" or relief of symptoms, and tend to use an overkill approach. You might appear to be "fixing" one problem, but you set up many other problems because you disturb the vibrational balance of the other systems within the energetic field. A good way to visualize this is to imagine that the body has rivers of energy running through it - these are the meridians or acupuncture pathways of Chinese Medicine. If you have a "gallbladder attack" and the surgeon goes in and cuts out your gallbladder, he has essentially disrupted or dammed the energy flow for that particular energy pathway. This means that everything downstream is now cut off from the "energy river" - it dries up, and everything upstream gets backed up with too much energy.
It's the Cause, not the Symptom
When we focus on using therapies that treat the symptoms, not the causes, we leave ourselves open to many more problems than we originally suffered from. (In this author's view, the best thing about the conventional medical model is the field of Emergency medicine, which has turned saving and keeping people alive into an art form.) For day to day health care and maintenance, there are many subtle and effective tools available. What sets vibrational therapies apart from "biochemically-based" modalities is the subtlety with which they can work, and because of their subtlety, the lack of side effects that one has to contend with. Now this isn't to say that side effects can't or won't occur, because everything that we do, subtle or otherwise has some consequence, and it may not always be perceived as "good". The point to keep in mind though is that there is a difference between a "side effect" and a "healing aggravation".
A Light Touch
Another myth that we have come to believe through the old paradigm view of Newtonian science is that "more is better". In the Quantum universe this is definitely not the case. We find that through the use of very subtle treatment forms, we can do just as much or more to effect and enhance healing within the body, without having the often pesky and sometimes lethal side effects of allopathic medicine. All of us have experienced or had a loved one who has experienced medical mismanagement. Either through the use of the prescription drugs counteracting one another (because all the specialist doctors we see don't really have the time to get a good history and find out what other drugs we are taking or what health problems we have had in the past). Or else even worse, where surgery is performed on the wrong body part, etc. This is all the result of the mechanistic view, whereby medical care is performed in an assembly line fashion, and where your doctors hardly know your name unless they have your chart in front of them. In fairness to physicians, this author believes that many doctors start out with great intention and desire to heal people, it is the system (that is now "owned" by the insurance and pharmaceutical industries) that has created the breach of ethical and moral conduct.
So what are the Alternatives?
The types of therapies and tools that we are interested in looking at here as being Vibrational Medicine include:
Homeopathy
Aromatherapy
Acupuncture
Herbal medicine (used carefully since herbs are drugs too)
Nutritional support (again used very carefully)
Flower and other types of nature-based essences
Crystal and mineral therapies
Music and Sound Therapies
"Human" healing modalities such as:
Hands-on healing, prayer and meditation, Cranial sacral therapy, acupuncture, music therapies, Reiki, hydrotherapy, some forms of massage, etc.
You are Unique, Just like Everyone Else
These forms of therapy work to tune into and change the energetic resonance levels of the body/mind/spirit's electromagnetic field, thereby creating the space for the matter to change as well. Furthermore, just as no two snowflakes have the exact same pattern, so each one of us has our own unique energetic matrix, which means that different tools and therapies work differently for each of us.
Energy and Spirit
The other component of Vibrational Medicine, which we have yet to delve into, is the spiritual component. Again, looking back at the Newtonian model, everything was seen as compartmentalized or separate, but within the quantum model there can be no separateness, because its all energy. When we come to understand that "Believing is Seeing", we can see how the concept of Faith works. When we choose to have faith in the existence of a Universal and Divine Presence, or God, we can understand that God is nothing more than the energy matrix that makes up our Universe. God then, is the very Life Force Energy (Chi, Prana, or Breath of life), that flows into and through us. This God, or Life Force Energy, is the very fuel that keeps us alive. The degree to which we allow this life force energy to flow (or put another way, the degree to which we are willing and able to see ourselves as part of, or co-creators with this Universal Energy), determines how healthy we are. With this idea in mind, we don't even need any outside tools or therapies to create or enhance our body, mind, and spirit. We can simply call it into existence through the use of meditation and prayer. Unfortunately, not too many of us have been willing to take the time or energy required manifesting our health through the discipline of prayer and meditation so it's good that there are also other tools available to assist us on our journey to health.
How do I start the Journey?
If you are truly new to this kind of understanding of your body and the universe you live in, then the best way to get started is to find alternative health care providers that you can trust and work with them to begin your "journey to empowerment". Please be careful here though, because it is critical that you pay attention to your own intuition. If a practitioner, no matter how well-intentioned, tells you to do, get, or receive some kind of therapy that does not "feel" right to you, PAY ATTENTION! When something does not feel right, it probably isn't RIGHT FOR YOU! That doesn't mean it might not be right for someone else, but since we are each a unique expression of energy, different tools, therapies, etc. will work better for each of us. These are deep waters that you are treading in and until you are a strong enough swimmer, you can be lead down all kinds of "winding paths". A big part of this journey is about you getting tuned into your body and your intuition (the still, small voice). As you learn to pay attention to that little voice that nags at you, you are on your way to becoming that whole and healthy being that God wants you to be. We are each, truly our own best guides, but it takes some trial and error to get to know ourselves and what is right for us.
